An international classical music festival began in the Aegean resort town of Bodrum in Turkey on Wednesday.
The 5th International D-Marin Turgutreis Classical Music Festival opened with a concert of Turkish pianist Fazil Say and composer and Moldovan violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja.
The Izmir State Symphonic Orchestra accompanied the pianist and the violinist.
First Kopatchinskaja then Say took stage during the concert.
Kopatchinskaja studied composition and violin in Vienna and Bern. Her recital-CD with Fazil Say (Naive) won the Excellentia Award of the Magazine "Pizzicato" (Luxembourg) and as well as the ECHO-Klassik award 2009.
Patricia Kopatchinskaja has worked with many leading orchestras including Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Symphonic Orchestra, Wiener Kammerorchester, Mozarteum-Orchester Salzburg, Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin, SWR-Radiosymphonieorchester Stuttgart, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Wurttembergisches Kammerorchester, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, Orchestra Giuseppe Verdi Milano, Finnish Radio Symphonic Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic, Tschaikowsky Symphony Orchestra Moscow, NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo and Tokyo Philharmonic.
She won the international Szeryng-Competition in Mexico, the prestigious "International Credit Suisse Group Young Artist Award". She received the "New Talent - SPP Award" of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the "Forderpreis Deutschlandfunk" award.
D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival takes place every year since 2005 at the D-Marin in Turgutreis hamlet of Bodrum town under the sponsorship of Dogus Group.
Reaching audiences of 7,000 in its first year, 12,000 in its second, 13,500 in its third, and 14,100 in its fourth, the festival was admitted to the European Festivals Association (EFA) as it entered the fifth year.
Izmir State Symponic Orchestra, I Musici Di Roma, Symphonierorchester Der Volksoper Wien, Izmir Barok (baroque), Sun Huang (erhu-a Chinese musical fiddle), Hande Dalkilic (piano), and Zeynep Ucbasaran (piano) will take stage during the festival.
Turkish conducor Ibrahim Yazici and Azerbaijani conductor Yalcin Adigezalov are the other names the festival will host.
